Privacy policy

1. Who this covers

This policy applies to the SprintText keyboard and app for iPhone and iPad, to SprintText for Mac, and to this website. SprintText is the data controller.

2. The principles this policy follows

• Learning happens locally by default. The model SprintText builds of how you write — Sprint Brain — is created and stored on your device.
• Raw typing text is not retained by default. What SprintText keeps are derived signals: counts, weights and vocabulary. Retaining raw typed text is a setting, and it is off unless you turn it on.
• Cloud AI is opt-in. It is off until you enable it. With it enabled, text is sent only when you explicitly invoke an AI action, and only the text that action needs.
• We do not sell your data, share it with advertisers, or use your writing to train general-purpose models.

We deliberately do not claim that nothing ever leaves your device. That is untrue for anyone who uses a cloud AI action, and a promise that fails under normal use is not a promise.

3. What stays on your device

The following are created and held on your device, and are not transmitted to us unless you switch on sync:

• Your shortcuts: triggers, expansions, folders, notes and usage counts.
• Sprint Brain: derived counts and weights, and — only if you have enabled continuous learning — a vocabulary of words you use.
• Your settings, including every privacy switch described here.

The Sprint Brain data model has no field for the sentence surrounding a word, for the application you were typing in, or for a transcript of your keystrokes. Where the operating system uses a secure text field — password entry, for example — iOS substitutes the system keyboard and SprintText does not receive those keystrokes at all.

4. What we collect

4.1 Without an account

You can install and use SprintText without giving us any personal information. The free keyboard and shortcuts require no account.

4.2 Account information

If you create an account to use sync or cloud AI, we hold the email address you register and the state of your subscription. Payment is processed by Apple through the App Store; we do not receive or store your card details.

4.3 Diagnostics

If you send us a crash report or a support message, we hold what you send us for as long as it takes to resolve the issue and a reasonable period afterwards. Apple may also share aggregated crash data with us if you have opted into sharing analytics with developers in your iOS settings; that data is not linked to you.

4.4 Product analytics

Where we measure use of the apps, we measure whether a feature was used — not what you used it on. We do not record the content of your writing for analytics under any circumstances.

5. Cloud AI

Cloud AI is off by default. When you enable it and then explicitly invoke an action — a rewrite, a translation, a draft from a note — the following is sent to be processed:

• The passage of text you selected or wrote for that action.
• The action you chose.
• Style guidance derived from your Sprint Brain, so the result reads as your writing. Your Brain itself is not sent.

The following is not sent: your shortcut library, your other messages, or any continuous stream of what you are typing.

Text sent for an AI action is used to produce and return that result. It is not used to train general-purpose models. It is retained only as long as is needed to serve the request and for a short operational window for abuse prevention and reliability — no longer than 30 days — after which it is deleted.

Processing may involve a third-party model provider acting as our processor under contract. That provider is bound not to use your text for its own model training.

Turning cloud AI off stops all of this. The keyboard, shortcuts, prediction and the Brain continue to work exactly as before.

6. Sync

Sync is off by default. When enabled, your shortcuts and Sprint Brain are synchronised between devices signed in to your account. Data is encrypted in transit and at rest. Sync exists to move your data between your own devices; it is not a shared, public or published store, and we do not read its contents.

Deleting your Brain or your shortcuts on one device propagates that deletion to your other devices rather than leaving a copy behind.

7. This website

This site is a set of static files. It sets no cookies, runs no advertising or third-party tracking scripts, and loads no third-party fonts or assets. Our web server keeps standard access logs — IP address, time, page requested, user agent — for security and troubleshooting, and these are deleted on a rolling basis.

8. Children

SprintText is not directed at children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, contact us and we will delete it.

9. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, export or delete the personal information we hold about you, to object to or restrict certain processing, and to complain to your data protection authority.

Most of what SprintText holds about you is on your device, where you can inspect and delete it directly: clearing Sprint Brain removes the learned model, and deleting the app removes your local data entirely. For anything held in your account, write to privacy@sprinttext.com and we will action it. We do not charge for this and we do not require a specific form of words.

10. Changes

If we change this policy in a way that materially affects how your information is handled, we will say so in the app before the change takes effect rather than quietly updating this page. The date at the top of this document always reflects the current version.
